  • Register of Deeds

    Records are available to search in person during normal busness hours. Staff is unable to do searches for you. However there are many good abstractors out there to assist you.


    All deeds must be accompanied by a Real Estate Transfer Statement-Form 521.


    Deeds transferring property into a trust will need a Certification of Exempt Status of Deed to Trustee


    Documents are typically photocopied on Friday and are returned to the sender, unless otherwise instructed.


    Document Requirements

    • Documents must have a 3 inch top margin on the 1st page for our recording information. Below the 3 inch margin, every instrument shall have the return address and the title of the instrument. (An extra $6.00 fee will be charged per document that does not meet this statute)
    • Printed forms intended for recordation purpose shall have a 1 inch margin on all other sides.
    • All instruments submitted shall be submitted in black 8 point font or larger on standard white letter or legal size paper not less than 20 pound weight.
    • The name of each party to the instrument shall be typed, printed or stamped beneath the original signature.
    • Signatures must be in black or blue ink.
    • A stamp can not cover or interfere with any part of the instrument.

    Fees

    • $10.00 for the first page and $6.00 for each additional page recorded.
    • $2.25 per $1,000 of sale price for Documentary Stamp Tax.  (Certain deeds are exempt, check the Documentary Stamp Tax Table and Exemption List for details.)
    • $  .50  per page of documents copied and picked up in person
    • $1.00  per page of documents copied and mailed.
    • $1.00 per page + a $1.00 fax/email fee for documents faxed or emailed
    • $1.50 per page of documents certified

  • Marriage

    Marriage License Information


    To obtain a marriage license, please apply in person and be sure to bring your current government issued photo identification or birth certificate along with the $25 fee in cash or check.


    The information needs to matched the birth certificate not generally. If it doesn't match the birth certificate it could cause them problems down the road in getting Passports for example.



    You will need to fill out the marriage worksheet either by clicking the link below or bringing the following infomation for each party with you. The information generally matches your birth certificate.

    • If previously married you will need when, where and how the marriage ended 
    • If 17 or 18 years of age, you need to have signed parental consent form to get married in the State of Nebraska.
    • Must be 19 to get married without consent.

    To obtain a certified copy of a marriage license issued in Kimball County you will need the parties names including maiden names and the date of marriage along with $9 in cash or check

  • Vital Records

    Birth & Death Certificates


    Birth & Death Certificates are only filed at the state level. The Office of Vital Records preserves birth, death, marriage and divorce records which occur in Nebraska. The records maintained by this office are issued as legal certified copies and are printed on multi-colored security paper with a digitally enhanced state seal. Certified certificates are used for providing proof of self and in obtaining records such as a driver's license, Social Security cards, passports, registering for school, sporting activities, transfer of property and for collecting retirement benefits or life insurance.

  • Special Licenses

    Liquor, Tobacco & Bingo Licenses


    Application for Special Designated Liquor License 

    One day license for nonprofit type organizations who are tax exempt by the IRS, or a retail licensee who wishes to hold an event off his/her licensed premises. The License fee is $40 made payable to the Nebraska Liquor Control Commission. Each application must have local approval, pay a $25.00 fee and a have signed statement from the County Sheriff. A non-profit organization must also include IRS information.


    Tobacco License

    Applications for Tobacco Licenses require businesses to have their exact location, proof of identity, and a fee of $10.00 to the County Clerk.


    Application for Bingo License

    A Bingo License is applied for and issued through the County Clerk’s office. It expires September 30th of each year. The cost is $10.00.

The next scheduled election is the 2024 Primary Election on May 2024.

REGISTER TO VOTE

There are different ways you can register to vote.  In person at the Clerk's Office or other government offices such as the Department of Motor Vehicles or Department of Health and Human Services. You may choose to do it online with the Secretary of State using the link below.

  • Must be 18 years or older by the 1st Tuesday following the 1st Monday in November.
  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • Must be a resident of the State of Nebraska.
  • Must have your civil rights restored if convicted of a felony.
  • Not be legally found to be mentally incompetent.

CANDIDATES

Anyone wanting to run for an elected position must file with the Clerk's Office.


The deadline to file for office for the Primary Election is February 15th for incumbents and March 1st for non-incumbents.


The deadline to file for office for the General Election is July 15th for incumbents and August 1st for non-incumbents.



Filing Fees

If a filing fee is required to file for office, please pay the City or Village clerk prior to coming to the Clerk’s office to file. A receipt of payment needs to be presented to the Clerk’s office prior to finalizing filing for office. County filing fees can be paid at the Clerk’s office.

Voter Registration

3rd Friday before next election - Last day for voter registration form to be delivered to the election office by someone other than the person registering.  Last day voter registrations can be completed at or returned to State Agencies or Departments.  Last day voter registrations can be completed at DMV.  Last day for on-line voter registration. Postmark deadline for mailed-in registrations.

Early Voting

120 days before election - First day for Election Office to accept early voting ballot request for the election.


30 days before election - Early voting begins in the Election Office. (Monday through Thursday, 8:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. and Friday 8:00a.m. to 4:00p.m.)


Close of business day 2nd Friday before election - Last day to receive an early voting ballot application for ballot to be mailed to a specific address.

Residents who live East of Oak Street are in the 1st Ward.

    Persons who are 17 and 18 will be able to obtain a marriage license in the State of Nebraska with signed parental consent.

    Yes, marriage license is good to use anywhere in the state of Nebraska up to one year of issuance.

    No, all Early Voting Ballots must be returned to the Clerk's Office or drop box by 7 pm election night.

    A person who you have come in to the Clerk's Office to sign the request form and pick up your ballot.

    Military DD 214 should be recorded in the Clerk's Office as well as the Veteran Service Office.

  • What type of payments are accepted?

    Cash and Check are the current forms of payment accepted.

  • How do I file a Corporation or Partnership?

    These types of filings are done at the state level.
